Rochester Hills Michigan
Impossible to Get To!

To demonstrate the flexibility of the UGT System. The city of Rochester Hills, Michigan presented the ultimate test performed on the Clinton Watershed East – Natural Peserve, behind the Christian Hills Sub Division in August of 2007. In August of 2007, UGT and and staff installed six manholes in heavy swamp and high water table. The site presented a major problem to the city. The manholes were taking in millions of gallons of water into thier waste system. This was primarily happening in the spring time when over flow of the river was prevalent. The sites were so remote and swampy the city could not get heavy duty equipment into these locations to elevate them.

UGT rings and Veil Safe were used to elevate the manhole frame and cover above ground as high as 42". The goal was to raise the frame and cover above the potential water line. The holes were completed in two days including the exterior veil.

On June 3, 2008, UGT inspected the sites by removing the covers and taking photos of the manhole
interiors. Our findings show that there is no inflow or infiltration. The rust drips in the photos indicate water
penetration was from the opening in the cover. ie. Bolt holes, cover clearance etc. The drip marks on
the interior are adjacent to the bolt locations of the cover and from the condensation bleed off
features. This shows the value of thier functionality. The walls remain clean and show no mud or
sediment patterns.
